BCSA Holds Annual Legislative Luncheon

Distinguished members recognized – All enjoy delicious lunch and camaraderie

On Thursday, August 29, the Buffalo Council of Supervisors and Administrators, held its Annual Legislative Luncheon at the Grande Hotel. The membership happily anticipated this gathering as summer ends and preparations for the new school year were in full swing.

President Crystal Barton welcomed nearly the full union membership. Then the room stilled in a moment of silence for colleagues and loved ones lost during the past year. Following, President Barton gave some historical perspective on the association, highlighting challenging negotiations. Finally, she drew attention to the new digital presence of BCSA on the national AFSA website.

The program continued with reports from constituent organizations including Central Office Administrators, Elementary Principals, Elementary Assistant Principals, Secondary Principals, and Secondary Assistant Principals.   Trust and membership reports were given. Reports on grievances, scholarship, professional development, and PAC rounded out the informational portion of the program.

Members received messages from our State and National affiliate unions. Mark Cannizzaro, NYSFSA President, said: “ . . . no one has a more complex and demanding role than school leaders, and the community of Buffalo is dependent on your dedication and talent. Please rest assured that NYSFSA will continue to support you and fiercely advocate on your behalf in Albany.” While Ernest Logan, AFSA President, sent a video of support with a call toaction. “Who better than you to shape the policies that make or break our schools?  Take a political position for the sake of the children.”

For the first time, Mrs. Barton, wishing to acknowledge the commitment of members to the work of the BCSA, presented awards to administrators who have distinguished themselves. For the first time, she presented President’s Awards and Certificates of Appreciation. This recognition was well-received by the happy recipients.

With the legislative program complete, the Brothers and Sisters of Local 10 enjoyed a delicious lunch and the camaraderie of fellow BCSA members.
